Troubleshooting Hub

Practical, verified steps to resolve network discovery issues, firewall permissions, hotspot routing, and elevated application compatibility.

1. Phone Cannot Find the Laptop (Discovery Fails)

When you open Jugad on Android, it sends a UDP broadcast probe on port 8444 across your local subnet. The Windows companion listens on 0.0.0.0:8444 and replies with its hostname and port.

Probable Causes:

  • Companion Not Running: Ensure the desktop companion is launched via the Jugad โ€” BY YUVII desktop shortcut or Start menu, and that the top indicator displays a green "Running" status.
  • Different Networks: The phone is on mobile cellular data (LTE/5G) or a different Wi-Fi network than the laptop.
  • Router AP Isolation: University dorms, office guest networks, and public hotel routers frequently block direct peer-to-peer traffic between Wi-Fi clients.
  • Firewall blocking UDP 8444/8445: Windows Defender has blocked local discovery broadcast traffic on the network interface.

Solutions:

  1. Turn on Windows Mobile Hotspot (Fastest Fix): Activate your laptop's built-in Mobile Hotspot and connect your phone to it. Hotspots guarantee a direct, uninhibited route between both devices with zero router interference.
  2. Manual IP Connection: In the desktop companion overview, note the listening IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.105 or 192.168.137.1). On your phone, tap the top connection pill, enter the IP address and port 8443, and tap Connect.

2. Windows Defender Firewall Configuration

Windows Defender Firewall occasionally marks new socket listeners as blocked by default.

Security Recommendation

Never disable Windows Firewall completely. Always create narrow, application-specific rules that allow only the exact required ports on Private networks.

Automated PowerShell Configuration:

Run PowerShell as Administrator and execute the bundled firewall configuration script:

powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\scripts\allow-firewall.ps1

Manual Firewall Rule Commands:

Or create the inbound firewall rules directly using Windows PowerShell:

# Allow Jugad WebSocket Listener (TCP 8443) New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "Jugad Remote Companion (TCP-In)" -Direction Inbound -LocalPort 8443 -Protocol TCP -Action Allow -Profile Private # Allow Jugad Subnet Discovery (UDP 8444) New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "Jugad Remote Discovery (UDP-In)" -Direction Inbound -LocalPort 8444 -Protocol UDP -Action Allow -Profile Private

Manual GUI Configuration:

  1. Press Win + R, type wf.msc, and press Enter to open Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security.
  2. Click Inbound Rules on the left sidebar → click New Rule... on the right.
  3. Select Port → click Next.
  4. Select TCP, enter Specific local ports: 8443 → click Next.
  5. Select Allow the connection → click Next.
  6. Check Private (leave Public unchecked for safety) → click Next.
  7. Name it Jugad Companion and click Finish.
  8. Repeat the steps for UDP port 8444 (named Jugad Discovery).

3. Mobile Hotspot Setup Walkthrough

The Windows Mobile Hotspot provides an isolated, zero-latency 5GHz / 2.4GHz Wi-Fi link directly between your laptop and phone without requiring an external internet connection.

Setup Steps on Windows 10 & 11:

  1. Open Windows Settings (Win + I).
  2. Navigate to Network & internet → Mobile hotspot.
  3. Under Share my internet connection from, choose your active network (or leave default).
  4. Under Share over, select Wi-Fi.
  5. Click Edit to configure a familiar Network name (SSID) and Password.
  6. Toggle the Mobile hotspot switch to On.
  7. On your Android phone, open Wi-Fi settings and connect to this network.
Standard Hotspot IP

Windows always configures its hotspot adapter as the gateway at 192.168.137.1. Jugad is pre-configured to detect this address automatically.

4. Input Not Responding in CodeTantra or Administrator Tools (UIPI)

If the mouse cursor glides smoothly on the Windows Desktop, Notepad, and your browser, but fails to click or type inside installed applications like CodeTantra (CodeTantra-SEA), Task Manager, or elevated terminal prompts, you are encountering Windows UIPI (User Interface Privilege Isolation).

Why UIPI Blocks Standard Remote Control Apps:

CodeTantra is registered in Windows Application Compatibility with ~ RUNASADMIN, forcing it to run at High Integrity (Administrator). Windows security forbids non-elevated user processes from injecting synthetic window messages or standard SendInput calls into higher-integrity windows, returning Error 5 (ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED).

How Jugad Solves This:

Jugad features a **Dual-Mode Input Subsystem**:

  • Hardware HID Kernel Driver Bypass: When a virtual HID minidriver (e.g. uvhid.sys) is installed on your machine, Jugad packages mouse deltas and keystrokes into direct 65-byte kernel output reports. The input enters Windows from hidclass.sys as real physical hardware reports, bypassing UIPI completely.
  • Standard Fallback: If no virtual HID minidriver is present on the PC, you can optionally right-click Jugad.Desktop.exe and select Run as administrator to elevate the companion and control elevated applications.

You can verify the active input provider anytime in the companion's Overview tab under Input Compatibility Subsystem.

5. Pairing, Authentication & Reconnection

Pairing PIN Mismatch or Expired

For security, the mutual 6-digit PIN expires after 120 seconds. If pairing fails:

  • Click Generate New PIN on the companion Overview card.
  • Enter the fresh PIN on your Android phone.
  • Alternatively, if you are on your personal home Wi-Fi or hotspot, check Seamless 1-Tap Connect in the companion to allow automatic 1-tap authorization.

Reconnecting After Sleep or Reboot

When your laptop wakes from sleep or you restart the application:

  1. Ensure the companion is running.
  2. Open Jugad on Android.
  3. Because your device received a cryptographically signed session token during initial pairing, Jugad re-authenticates automatically in under 500 ms without prompting for a PIN.

Resetting Trusted Devices

To revoke a phone's authorization, open the companion, navigate to the Paired Devices tab, select the device, and click Revoke Access.
