Setup & Connection Guide

Complete walkthrough for installing the Windows companion, setting up the Android app, and connecting over your local network.

Part A — Install the Windows Companion

The Windows Companion acts as the lightweight host listener on your PC. It receives encrypted touch and key events from your phone and dispatches them directly to the operating system.

1. System Requirements

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 (version 1809 or higher) or Windows 11.
  • Runtime: Self-Contained. The installer bundles the necessary .NET 8.0 components automatically—no prior .NET installation is required.
  • Network: Local Wi-Fi network or Windows Mobile Hotspot.

2. Download & Installation

  1. Download the official Windows installer (Jugad-Setup-x64.exe) from the Downloads section.
  2. Double-click Jugad-Setup-x64.exe to start the standard Windows setup wizard.
  3. Follow the installation prompts:
    • Destination: Defaults to your system Program Files directory.
    • Desktop Shortcut: Keep checked to place the Jugad — BY YUVII icon on your desktop.
    • Windows Startup (Optional): Check the box if you want Jugad to launch automatically when you sign in to Windows (can also be toggled anytime inside the app).
  4. Click Install. Setup copies the binaries, creates shortcuts, and configures local firewall permissions automatically.
  5. On the final screen, check Launch JUGAD and click Finish.

3. Daily Launching & Uninstallation

Once installed, launch Jugad like any normal Windows software:

  • Desktop: Double-click the Jugad — BY YUVII desktop icon.
  • Start Menu: Search for "Jugad" in the Windows Start menu (Win + S).

The companion runs quietly as a native Windows GUI application (WinExe) with zero console window. Single-instance protection ensures that launching the shortcut again simply brings the existing window to the front without duplicate processes or port conflicts.

To uninstall, open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps, select JUGAD — BY YUVII, and click Uninstall.

4. Confirm Companion is Running

Once launched, the Jugad desktop companion window appears displaying:

  • Listening Endpoint: Shows your laptop's active IP address and port (e.g., 192.168.137.1 : 8443).
  • Status Indicator: Displays a green "Running" badge.
  • Input Compatibility: Shows "Virtual HID Driver (Kernel Level)" active if the driver is detected, or "Win32 SendInput" mode.

5. Windows Firewall Permission

When starting for the first time, Windows Defender Firewall may display an alert requesting network permissions.

  • Check the box for Private networks, such as my home or work network.
  • Click Allow access.

Jugad strictly requires local inbound traffic on TCP port 8443 (for the WebSocket connection) and UDP port 8444 (for automatic local device discovery). It does not request or require public internet access.

Part B — Install the Android App

Jugad for Android is distributed as an independent APK package designed to run on any Android device without Google account dependencies or background tracking.

1. Device Compatibility

  • Supported Android Versions: Android 8.0 (Oreo, API 26) through Android 15.
  • Architecture: Universal ARM64 / ARMv7 / x86_64.

2. Sideloading the APK

  1. Download jugad-v1.0.0.apk directly on your Android phone using Chrome, Firefox, or by transferring it from your PC.
  2. When the download finishes, tap the notification or open the file from your phone's Files / Downloads app.
  3. Android will prompt: "For your security, your phone is currently not allowed to install unknown apps from this source."
  4. Tap Settings on the prompt, then toggle Allow from this source for your browser or Files app only.
  5. Tap the back button and tap Install.
Targeted Permission Practice

You only need to allow installation for that single browser or file manager. You do not need to disable Google Play Protect or turn off security globally.

3. App Permissions Explained

Jugad is built around zero-trust privacy. It asks only for the minimum required permissions:

  • Local Network / Wi-Fi State: Required to locate the local gateway and broadcast UDP discovery packets on your home subnet.
  • Vibration (Haptics): Optional subtle tactile feedback when clicking trackpad buttons.
  • Zero background permissions: Jugad does not run persistent background telemetry or location tracking.

Part C — Connect the Phone to the Laptop

Jugad offers two flexible networking setups: home Wi-Fi or Windows Mobile Hotspot.

Method 1: Windows Mobile Hotspot (Recommended for Travel & College)

The most reliable, zero-latency method when you are away from home or when college/hotel Wi-Fi prevents devices from communicating:

  1. On your Windows laptop, open Settings → Network & internet → Mobile hotspot.
  2. Turn the switch On.
  3. On your Android phone, connect to your laptop's hotspot Wi-Fi network.
  4. Your laptop automatically assumes the standard host IP: 192.168.137.1.

Method 2: Shared Local Wi-Fi

Connect both your laptop and Android phone to the same home Wi-Fi network. Ensure that your router does not have "AP Isolation" (Client Isolation) enabled.

Establishing the Connection

  1. Make sure the Jugad companion is running on your Windows laptop.
  2. Open Jugad on your Android phone.
  3. Automatic Discovery: Within 1–2 seconds, your laptop name will appear under Discovered Computers. Tap it to connect instantly.
  4. Manual Entry (Fallback): If broadcast packets are filtered by your router, tap the connection pill at the top of the mobile screen, enter the laptop's IP address (e.g. 192.168.137.1 or your local LAN IP) and port 8443, then tap Connect.
  5. Authentication:
    • Seamless 1-Tap Mode: If enabled on your companion (default for trusted local networks), the session authorizes immediately without manual prompts.
    • PIN Pairing: If manual PIN is required, enter the 6-digit mutual pairing PIN displayed on your laptop companion window.
  6. Verification: The mobile status pill will turn green displaying CONNECTED along with your PC name and ping latency (typically 1–3 ms).

Part D — First Use & Controls

The mobile application is organized into three focused primary views:

1. The Trackpad (Mouse View)

  • Glide: Drag one finger across the surface to move the Windows cursor with calibrated relative physics.
  • Left Click: Tap anywhere with one finger, or tap the large dedicated LEFT CLICK bar at the bottom.
  • Right Click: Tap with two fingers, or tap the dedicated RIGHT CLICK bar.
  • Hold & Drag: Double-tap and hold on the second tap, then glide to select text or drag windows.
  • Scroll: Drag two fingers vertically for smooth scrolling through web pages and documents.

2. The Soft Keyboard (Keyboard View)

  • Tap the Keyboard tab in the bottom bar.
  • Tap the input field to summon your Android system keyboard.
  • Characters, numbers, and backspaces stream live into whatever Windows window currently has focus.
  • Use the on-screen modifier chips (Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Win) to latch keys for shortcuts like Ctrl+C or Alt+Tab.

3. The Utility Hub (More View)

  • Media Controls: Adjust master PC volume, mute, play/pause Spotify or YouTube, and skip tracks.
  • Browser Shortcuts: Open new tabs, close tabs, refresh, and switch tabs.
  • Presentation Mode: Fullscreen slide advance clicker with forward/back triggers and presentation timer.
  • Power Controls: Confirmed buttons to Lock workstation, Sleep, or Shut down cleanly.

Part E — Quick Assistance

Encountering an issue? Most common setup questions are resolved in under a minute:

  • Laptop not discovered? Verify that both devices are on the exact same Wi-Fi network, or use Windows Mobile Hotspot.
  • Firewall blocking traffic? Allow inbound rules for TCP 8443 and UDP 8444 in Windows Defender Firewall.
  • Input not responding in CodeTantra or Administrator tools? Ensure your Windows companion displays "Virtual HID Driver (Kernel Level)" in the Overview card.
